Doral's Mayor Luigi Boria invited homeowners living in mandatory homeowners' associations to a very interesting TOWN HALL MEETING at the Doral Park Country Club on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The topic:

OWNER-FRIENDLY LEGISLATIVE REFORMS FOR HOMEOWNERS' ASSOCIATION

Eric Glazer, Esq. - Jan Bergemann - Julio Robaina - Mayor Luigi Boria

Panel members Doral Mayor Luigi Boria, Attorney Eric Glazer, CCFJ President Jan Bergemann and former State Representative Julio Robaina faced a very appreciative audience of HOA board members and owners.

Many complaints from board members and owners were directed at the total lack of a government agency dealing with common complaints from board members and owners. The proposals contained in our HOA Reform bill were widely applauded. Board members and owners alike commented very favorable on the proposal of creating a regulatory agency like condo owners have since many years. Not one of the members in the audience opposed a possible charge of $4 to finance the agency. In regards to too much regulation many owners made it very clear stating that it is not so much regulation as it is consumer protection. Many board members felt that such an agency would save associations lots of money since information and interpretations of laws would come free of charge. With the Division combined with an Ombudsman many services would be available that now have to be purchased by associations at high cost.

Election and developer turn-over issues were as well high on the list of priorities -- with many examples presented by board members and owners alike.

The general consensus: HOA REFORM is desperately needed and would be very much appreciated by board members and homeowners.

As a result of this town hall meeting and the vocal demands for HOA reforms by the many Doral citizens present at the town hall meeting Mayor Luigi Boria and the City Council of the City of Doral passed on Wednesday the resolution (Click on Link below) asking Florida's legislators to pass the much needed and wanted HOA Reform Bills S580 and H7119.
